Global Exchange, November 2017

As part of the Global Project, the Global Executing Agency will annually host three regional exchanges (in Africa, Asia, and Latin America) and one global exchange for indigenous peoples and local communities (IPLCs) to exchange their knowledge and experiences around climate change, forestry, and REDD+.

The DGM Global Executing Agency is organizing the second DGM Global Exchange on IPLC engagement in Climate Policy.  This workshop will take place from Wednesday, November 1 to Friday, November 3, 2017 in Bonn, Germany. The exchange will include the participation of prominent indigenous leaders actively engaged in climate action and UNFCCC negotiations.

The main objective of the DGM Global Exchange is to strengthen the capacity of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) to fully and effectively participate in COP23 UNFCCC negotiations.

  • IPLC lead activities contributing to Nationally Determined Contributions.
  • Recommendations to negotiators in preparation of IPLC Platform SBSTA47 agenda item.
  • Dialogue with negotiators in preparation for COP23.

Participants

The DGM Global project has budget to support 15 participants for DGM Global Exchange. The DGM GSC co-chairs assigned the allocation for the following regions and IPLC networks:

  • 5 participants of Africa region
  • 3 participants of Asia region
  • 4 participants of Americas region
  • 3 participants of IPLC networks

CRITERIA

This DGM Global Exchange is targeted to individuals actively engaged with their country’s National Determined Contribution and/or National Climate Action Plan. The participant should be committed to share knowledge and disseminate information with their communities and should meet the criteria below:

  1. The participant is indigenous or a member of a local community.
  2. The participant is actively engaged with DGM program at the local, national, or regional levels.
  3. Preferably, the participant should anticipate having confirmed accreditation to participate at UNFCCC COP23 negotiations.
  4. The participant has knowledge of indigenous peoples traditional knowledge systems contributing to sustainable forest management.
  5. The participant has knowledge of country’s National Determined Contribution in his/her country.
  6. The participant has participated in national platforms or other conferences related to climate change or forests at any level.
  7. The participant has participated in national platforms or other conferences related to climate change or forests at any level.
  8. The participant is committed to disseminate learned information with IPLC and CSO networks.
