2nd Africa Regional Exchange - Kumasi, Ghana

After a successful first year of exchanges, DGM Global is excited to host its 2nd Annual Africa Regional Exchange in Kumasi, Ghana. The exchange will take place over the course of four days in the final week of August (exact dates to be confirmed). Representatives of all African DGM projects (Burkina Faso, Congo-Brazzaville, Cote d'Ivoire, DRC, Ghana, and Mozambique) are expected to attend, along with a representative from a DGM project in Asia to foster cross-regional exchange.

The content of each exchange is planned with input from members of the Global Steering Committee (GSC). In the this exchange, participants will learn about agroforestry, community forest management, and forest restoration efforts in the Western and Brong-Ahafo regions of Ghana, two culturally distinct regions targeted by the DGM, which have significant variations in land and forest management practices.

The GSC, in coordination with the host country's National Steering Committee, nominates exchange participants based on the below criteria: 


1. The participant has in-depth knowledge of indigenous peoples and local communities in their country.

2. The participant is indigenous or a member of a local community.

3.  The participant is actively engaged in climate change policy/forest issues, the
DGM, or other forest-related project implementation.

4. The participant is actively engaged in
formal IPLC or CSO networks, or has demonstrated an active role in disseminating information about IPLC- and forest-related issues at the local, national, or regional

5. The participant has participated in other conferences related to climate change or forests at any level.

6.  Participants from DGM countries should be engaged in DGM planning and/or implementation at the local, national, or regional levels.

7. Participants from other regions must:

a.    be from DGM countries
b.    demonstrate active engagement in DGM planning and implementation

c.    have in-depth knowledge of the IPLC context in both their country and region
d.    be actively engaged in national and regional networks to facilitate broad sharing of knowledge after the exchange
e.    be comfortable working in one of the primary exchange languages

1. Le participant dispose d'une connaissance approfondie des peuples autochtones et des populations locales dans son pays.

2. Le participant est lui-même membre d'un peuple autochtone ou d'une population locale.

3.  Le participant est activement engagé dans les politiques sur le changement climatique ou les sujets forestiers, dans le DGM, ou à d'autres projets liés à la forêt.

4. Le participant est activement engagé dans des réseaux formels de PAPL ou d'OSC, ou a joué un rôle actif dans la diffusion des informations sur les PAPL ou des sujets forestiers aux niveaux local, national ou régional.

5. Le participant a participé à d'autres conférences sur le changement climatique ou aux forêts à n'importe quel niveau.

6.  Les participants des pays du DGM doivent participer à la planification et/ou à la mise en œuvre du DGM aux niveaux local, national ou régional.

7. Les participants d'autres régions doivent:

a.     appartenir aux pays de la DGM
jouer un rôle actif dans la planification et / ou la mise en œuvre de la DGM.
avoir une compréhension approfondie du contexte IPLC dans leur pays et leur région
d.     participer activement aux réseaux nationaux et régionaux pour faciliter la diffusion de connaissances a
près l'échange
pouvoir travailler dans l'une des principales langues d'échange
