Meet the newly elected DGM Global Steering Committee co-chairs

Since its early days, the DGM has been an innovative mechanism governed by Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities. It began with an Interim Steering Committee advocating for IPLCs access to climate finance and has grown into a unique partnership with $70 million funding approved from Climate Investment Funds to support community-led initiatives in 12 countries. The DGM network celebrates the recent election of GSC co-chairs and subcommittees and recognizes their leadership and contribution to climate action in this process.

The DGM Global Steering Committee recently held its annual meeting. Similarly, to last year, due to the impacts of COVID-19, it was adapted to a virtual format. The meeting was conducted in four languages (English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese) over three days. During this meeting, the GSC decided on the DGM Global project work plan and budget, exchanged updates about the progress in DGM countries, provided strategic direction on important aspects of the DGM, and held elections of GSC co-chairs and subcommittees.

During the elections of GSC co-chairs and subcommittees, the GEA provided context about the status of each country project to assess which countries qualified for co-chair election. The recommended selection criteria included: balance of newly approved countries and those approved earlier, regional and gender balance, and active/inactive country project status. Two GSC members facilitated the nominations, and based on consensus, the following co-chairs and subcommittees were elected for the next two years.

DGM Global congratulates the new GSC co-chairs and recognizes the sustained dedication, leadership, and support of Idrissa Zeba and Mina Setra as DGM Co-Chairs of the DGM Global Steering Committee during the last period. Their valuable time and leadership contributed to the success of the first phase and the design and approval of the second phase of the DGM Global project.
